Bio-inspired design of mechanical metamaterials
highlight_off

Nature is the best example when it comes to design, ranging from structures to components of amazing beings. Nature designs not only fulfill the purpose for which they were built, but also, they adapt (evolve) to demanding conditions. In this project we will seek for inspiration from nature to build metamaterials, 3D print them and characterize their mechanical properties.
The work plan involves:
1. seek for geometrical patterns in nature. Get out of the engineering books and dive into biology ones.
2. Translate those patterns into computational models.
3. 3D print those models
4. Break those models to characterize their mechanical properties through experiments.
5. Report the results.
